Darren is an 18-inch high lion that visits the classroom with Deputy McDonald. Since Darren loves to be held and cared for, students volunteer to hold Darren during class. To take care of Darren, students must submit a written request. Here are some of those requests:

I think I would be a good babysiter to Daren because I help babysit my two nices and I would treat him like a human and would not put him down. Ben

I would like to take care of Daren because I would not abuse him like pull wiskers, tail or anything else. Also I have two sport pillows I always take them on vacations. That is why I would like to take care of Darren. From Travis Parker

I think I should take care of Darran because I sometimes help my sister babysit. Also because I understand the importance of not sitting him down. If I am picked I will try very hard to take care of Darran the best I can. We should treat Darren with respect and treat him like we were the baby and he was the parent. Put yourself in his shoes. I think I would make a good lion sitter because I use TLC. (tender, love, care) I have stuffed animals that I never leave home without it. (besides school) I also have a baby sister and I baby-sit her all the time. I would love to take care of Daren. I think he's cute.
